Hello! I am back with a Google search trends report today and very excited to be doing so. This week in search trends: real life Clark Kents, should you style headphones over hoodies, the top searches after “why do people look different when…” and a whole lot more.

But before we jump right in, I wanted to quickly thank everyone who has recently followed or subscribed to

A year ago, writing about trends and predictions based on micro trends was just an idea I was going back and forth on, so I feel very validated to know that there is a market for this type of content (consider this a sign to trust your gut and execute on your ideas, you will never regret it). Clark Kent is now a genre, believe it or not. And the top trending Clark Kent of the moment? A gymnast by the name of Stephen Nedoroscik. The top searches tied to his name include “Clark Kent of gymnastics,” “Clark Kent of pommel horse,” and “Clark Kent Olympics.”Let the glasses + secret skills agenda thrive.

And in the most on-brand moment ever, Zooey Deschanel is still the reigning “Clark Kent-core” queen - searches for “Zooey Deschanel Superman meme” are up +350% this year.

Meanwhile, “unrecognisable makeup” is up +750% this year. The top styles folks are transforming themselves into are Douyin makeup and goth makeup - two sides of the same hyper-curated internet coin if you ask me.

Also spiking right now - pandas. Or more specifically, their eyes. Over the past year “panda without dark circles” is up 100% and “panda without eyeliner” nearly doubled. There is something so cute, yet quite uncanny valley about them.

Apparently, we’re collectively obsessed with before and afters. Top “with and without” celebrity searches of the past decade include:

Zooey Deschanel with and without glasses
Zooey Deschanel with and without bangs
RuPaul with and without drag
James Harden with and without beard
Amber Rose with and without hair

What is the obsession with glasses right now? The most Googled “why do people look different…” questions from the past 10 years are:

when they die?

Existentialism is trending. Again.

I did not think there was interest around, but the people are asking BIG questions. By BIG I mean “what kind of dinosaur is…”:

And incase you were wondering, Barney & Friends is the most searched TV show about dinosaurs. However, with the release of Jurassic World,“Is Indominus Rex real?” is a breakout search from the past 30 days (this is how I find out there is a new Jurassic World movie).

Search interest in “did dinosaurs have feathers” is at a 10 year high while utah raptors and tyrannosaurus rex are the top trending “did … have feathers” from the past 30 days.

Neighboring states Mississippi, Louisiana and Alabama are the only states searching Baby Bop over Reptar:

2025 is the year of questioning everything you thought you knew about wearing clothes.Searches for “how to wear a fanny pack as a crossbody” are up +300%, and “how to wear a scarf as a belt” almost doubled.

Top breakout “this or that” questions right now:

“Headphones under or over hood?”
“Pants over or under cowboy boots?”

“Socks over tights” is trending almost 10x higher than “socks under tights.” The girls have spoken.

I spoke in my most recent trend predictions post that personal style would take over from the fatigue around cores and micro trends. Well, in 2025, “find my style” hit an all-time high - even outperforming “trending fashion.” WE DID IT.

Seems that scarves and shawls are also heavily trending right now with top trending “how to wear ___ as ___” this year searches going to none other than:

Balaclava as a beanie
Bandana as a top
Large scarf as a shawl
Flag as a cape
Bralette as a top
Fanny pack as crossbody
Bandana as a headband
Scarf as a belt
Sarong as a dress
Scarf as a hood

TOP TRENDS CORNER

“How to help Kerrville” is the top trending “how to help…” in the US right now, following devastating floods. My heart goes out to those who have been affected.

“Donate to flood victims” also took the top spot for donation-related searches.

And while we’re here…

“What does CONCACAF stand for” is up +450% in the past 24 hours. It’s at an all-time high, which feels like a cultural moment.

“Advanced Placement exams” are the #1 trending search in the U.S. today, with panic-level queries like “is a 4 on AP exam good?” and “is a 3 good on AP exam?” proving June PTSD has no expiration date.

North Carolina is the only state where people are searching both “flood warning” and “tornado warning” at once. Chaos weather, activate.

In the world of entertainment, Cardiff just hit a 20-year search high thanks to Oasis’s first reunion show. So, it makes total sense that the top trending setlist of the week goes to….You guessed it: “Oasis Cardiff setlist”.

Amaya Papaya searches nearly tripled, and “muʻumuʻu” reached an all-time high. Speaking of, I did not even know who she was until I saw this Girlbosstown video on my for you page. I wish I thought of this idea.

Sabrina Carpenter is already queen of summer with “manchild” as the top trending song, followed by “blue strips” by Jessie Murph. Not my music taste but hey, the data doesn’t lie and its pop music for a reason.

I already knew that this summer, the girls would get crafty, but I did not consider it go like this: “Hair tinsel” and “how to tie hair tinsel” are both being searched more than ever before. The top related question? “How to make a slip knot.”
