these micro trends will become mainstream in 2026
Ideas I have around trends which are starting to surface: darecations, friend group influencers, downshifter families and more.
Welcome back to threadloopfits! In December, I have some ideas for newsletter posts that address the predictions I got both right and wrong this year as well as what I see will make a statement next year. However, in this post, I am sharing a few of the ideas I believe we will see become normalised in 2026. From darecations, to friend group influencers, to downshifter families, you know I love range in the topics I choose to write about. Then later, I write more on some of the trends I am seeing among Gen Z and Gen Alpha. I hope this read is insightful and gets you thinking about what to expect in the next 12 months. ENJOY!
Darecations
A while back in one of my earlier trend predictions posts, I claimed that once food-based marketing faded out, we would begin to see more advertising centred around the great outdoors. In addition, Pinterest Trends also forecasted that in 2025 travel would be trending towards more mountain trips and skiing as opposed to city escapes. With all this in mind, imagine my lack of shock when Pinterest declared that in 2026, we would begin to see a rise in popularity of dare-devil tourism — or darecations as they prefer to call this trend. A darecation is a hold that focuses less on relaxing and more on adventure. Many Gen Z and millennial travellers are planning holidays around activities that include white-water rafting, canyoning and extreme sports, or major sporting competitions. The goal is to experience something more memorable and intense.
Friend Group Influencers
Recently on my fyp, I came across a video of a friend group who celebrated “fat Sunday” which chronicles a young, early 20s friend group who tour around NYC and showcasing the food they eat. The creator @babytunechii has made this a series which has racked up millions of views, and I think that this signals the next wave of content creators who will begin to gain popularity on these apps. So get your friend group together and pray you make it big with the right binge-able series.

Sailor Slippers
Sailor slippers are a timeless style of footwear inspired by traditional naval shoes, typically featuring a simple slip-on design, soft soles, and durable materials like leather or canvas. I have included them here because I have seen tutorials and patterns on Pinterest, possibly gaining popularity online for their comfort, simplicity, and nostalgic appeal, fitting current trends like slow-living fashion. Their classic, retro design and use of sustainable materials make them a stylish, durable, and effortless choice for modern lifestyles.

Families who downshift together, stay together
Downshifting is the deliberate choice to simplify your life by reducing stress, working fewer hours, earning less money, and owning fewer possessions. This can look like prioritising time, wellbeing, purpose, and relationships over material success and busyness. Why do people adopt this way of living then, if so many others are focused on hustling and moving up the corporate ladder? For starters, people downshift for different reasons. These include seeking more family time, reducing stress, or living more sustainably, and it often involves gradually changing lifestyle habits, consumption patterns, or even careers. Starting small, clarifying your personal motivations, managing finances to align with your goals, and connecting with supportive communities are practical ways to begin the journey. I do think with the rise of ideas like career minimalism, we will begin to see a lot of young families adopt this lifestyle in 2026 and beyond.

Customised and lived-in homes
2026 will be the year we embrace interiors that genuinely feel lived in. Homes will celebrate imperfection, gentle clutter, and a curated mix of pieces collected over time, creating spaces that are warm, inviting, and full of character. This trend reflects a shift away from sterile minimalism toward environments that feel personal, authentic, and comfortably lived in, ideas which will live past 2025 for a little longer. And yes, I am going to ignore Pantone’s 2026 Color of the year when I write this.

The hunt for the perfect pair of pants that Gen Z cannot get enough of.
Last week, I posted some outfit ideas on what teen girls can wear to the airport. Among some of the ideas I had picked from Pinterest, a few featured these flowy comfortable yoga pants that kind of look like leggings too. And when I tell you I had never gotten as many replies to a single story eager to know where they could get a pair. Immediately I went on a hunt for these and entrusted the help of Google reverse image search, and yet I couldn’t find an exact match. I thought it was probably old Brandy Melville (as in the style might exist but the colour way was long gone). A few days later, when I searched within Pinterest comments, I realised it was actually from a brand called Gaia Conception and the pants were called the Anoki Pant. I had never felt more accomplished and relieved.

I love your writing (and detective? clairvoyance?) so much! I cannot remember the last time I cared about what was trending in the sense that I would actually adapt my own wardrobe to it consciously (KEYWORD!), but the way trends work and shift and morph will never not be interesting to me. Somehow I have been eyeing up so many things you listed so I guess in my subconscious I am very trend aware.
I am FASCINATED that Victoria's Secret is on wish lists again! I wonder if you could find some of the old pj sets online; they were great quality back in the 00s/10s.
